Why It Matters

Minneapolis's first luxury hotel and still the benchmark. The Ivy Tower's historic architecture is genuinely striking — vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in the upper event spaces, not just a facade. The 2024 renovation added Masa & Agave (a speakeasy-style tequilaria with 300+ agave spirits) and Breva (New American), making the dining worth a visit even if you're not staying.

Built around the Ivy Tower — a ziggurat-style Art Deco landmark completed in 1929 — Hotel Ivy is Minneapolis's original luxury hotel. The tower sat dormant through the Great Depression, but when the hotel opened in 2007 it gave the old bones new life. A full renovation in 2024 refreshed the guest rooms, restaurants, bars, and event spaces without losing the building's architectural character. The result is 136 rooms and suites with limestone bathrooms, Frette linens, and Byredo toiletries, plus four drinking and dining venues, a full-service spa, and a serious fitness center — all connected to the city's downtown Skyway on the 3rd floor.
