Why It Matters
One of Monaco's few fully independent luxury hotels, outside the SBM group that runs the Casino and Hôtel de Paris. Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac earned two Michelin stars just nine months after opening in 2024 — those stars were retained in 2025. The pool was designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The lobby bar houses a signed Picasso lithograph alongside Warhol and Francis Bacon prints.
Built in 1889 and reborn in 2004 under the ornate hand of Parisian designer Jacques Garcia, the Métropole is Monte Carlo's most self-contained luxury address. It sits in the Carré d'Or — Monaco's gilded square — just steps from the Casino, but as an independent property outside the SBM conglomerate it has a quieter, more discreet feel than the palace hotels down on the waterfront. Rich fabrics, ornate antiques, marble baths, and Garcia's signature maximalism set the tone: this is not the place for Scandinavian minimalism. The 2025 renovation added newly refreshed rooms and the brand-new Spa Métropole by Guerlain, making it more relevant than ever.
