Why It Matters
One of Positano's oldest operating hotels, part of the Tablet Hotels / Michelin Guide selection, and family-run continuously for 70 years. L'Onda Beauty Centre — housed on the property — was the first beauty center opened on the entire Amalfi Coast, back in 1990. The complimentary loan of a 1971 convertible VW Beetle is a genuinely fun, signature touch. Sunset dinners at Il Tridente restaurant, framed by bougainvillea and sea views, are a real highlight.
Originally a private summer villa built in 1951 by the Aonzo family, Hotel Poseidon opened to the public in 1955 and has been one of Positano's most beloved addresses ever since. Four generations of the same family run this place, and it shows — not in a fussy, corporate way, but in genuine warmth and attention to detail. Set halfway up Positano's vertiginous cliff face on the sunrise-facing side, it commands views of the town, the sea, and the coast that are hard to beat at any price.

Since 2008, a vintage 1971 convertible Volkswagen Beetle has been available to all hotel guests free of charge. Can't be reserved in advance — ask the concierge at the start of your stay. One of the most distinctive touches in the entire property's experience.
