Hotel Sacher Salzburg
Imperial Austrian grand hotel — rich red velvets, crystal chandeliers, antique furnishings, marble bathrooms, and original artworks throughout. Formal but not stiff; guests are treated like family.
Ask for a river-facing room or suite — the view of Hohensalzburg Fortress from your balcony at sunrise is hard to beat
Why It Matters
The only grand hotel in Salzburg, dating from 1866. Home of the Original Sacher-Torte, the Gault&Millau-awarded Zirbelzimmer restaurant, and the Sacher Sky Suite — the largest self-contained suite in Salzburg, designed by French star decorator Pierre-Yves Rochon and built on the hotel's roof.
Dating to 1866, Hotel Sacher Salzburg is the only grand luxury hotel in Mozart's birthplace. It sits directly on the banks of the Salzach River, facing the old town and Hohensalzburg Fortress, with rooms and restaurants that make the most of that view. Privately owned by the Gürtler-Winkler family and a member of Leading Hotels of the World, it's been renovated to blend local aristocratic country-house design with modern comfort — without losing the 19th-century pomp that makes it feel like no other hotel in the city.
