Hotel Sin Nombre
Minimalist art-house with North African undertones — clean lines, bleached walls, local artisan textiles, curated photography, and a gallery-meets-guesthouse sensibility. Deliberately moody and slightly mysterious.
Book Restaurante Sin Nombre well in advance — it's a 24-cover restaurant that fills up months ahead
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide Selected property co-founded by the creators of Gem&Bolt mezcal. Restaurante Sin Nombre's plant-forward take on classic Oaxacan cuisine is booked out months in advance. Rooms are identified by symbols, not numbers. The Bibliotekita library has an infinity mirror ceiling and red neon light. Art throughout is curated, not decorative filler — some pieces are for sale.
Hotel Sin Nombre is a 22-room adults-only boutique hotel occupying a 17th-century colonial mansion on a busy stretch of 20 de Noviembre in Oaxaca's Centro Histórico. Six years of meticulous restoration — led by California-born artist Elliott Coon and Portuguese architect João Boto Caeiro — produced something that reads more like a private home than a hotel. The building's bones are colonial, but the mood borrows from North African riads: a four-storey sun-drenched courtyard at the center, rooms identified by symbols instead of numbers, walls painted with natural lime-based pigments, and monochrome photography of Afro-descendant coastal culture by master photographer Alberto Ibáñez hung throughout. The restaurant is one of the most-talked-about tables in Oaxaca.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel's cavernous four-storey atrium functions as a curated gallery space. Large-scale murals by Carlito Dalceggio and striking monochrome photography by Alberto Ibáñez — documenting Afro-descendant coastal Oaxacan culture — are displayed throughout. Some photographic works are available for purchase.
A small library nicknamed the 'Bibliotekita' — a neon-lit reading nook with an infinity mirror ceiling and red ambient lighting. One of the more unusual and genuinely cool spots in the hotel to curl up with a book.
Staff can arrange cooking class bookings for guests interested in Oaxacan cuisine.
The hotel's concierge team can arrange local guides to explore Oaxaca City and surroundings — including market tours, tastings of tejate (the traditional pre-Hispanic cacao-corn drink), Monte Albán visits, and more. Staff are consistently praised for their helpfulness with excursion recommendations.
