Why It Matters
The 7th-floor Steinterrasse was named Rooftop Bar of the Year 2024 by Falstaff and arguably has the best panoramic view over Salzburg's old town and Hohensalzburg Fortress of any hotel in the city. The culinary concept is run under the direction of local Michelin-starred chef Andreas Senn. The hotel is part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts (Platinum tier) and Tablet Hotels.
Hotel Stein sits right on the Salzach riverbank, directly across from Salzburg's UNESCO old town. There's been an inn on this site since medieval times, locals have loved it since the 1950s, and a full gut renovation in 2018 turned it into the design hotel it is today. The building is listed, the floors are color-coded floor to floor, and Murano glass art by Barovier & Toso runs the entire seven-story staircase. Adults only (16+), 56 rooms.

Honeymoon Suite
The most dramatic room in the hotel. On the second floor, with a protected and meticulously restored historic stucco ceiling that genuinely stops people mid-step. Faces both Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Salzach river. Barovier & Toso glass art, freestanding bathtub plus shower, and rooftop breakfast included for direct bookers. The only suite specifically marketed for couples.
Junior Suite
A step up in both space and atmosphere. At 32–40 m², there's a proper lounge area and the room feels like somewhere to actually spend time, not just sleep. The in-house retro-design Stein espresso machine using 'Legendary Beans' sustainable coffee pods makes an appearance here. Some face the old town; others are positioned for quieter courtyard or Steingasse outlooks.

Clean, confident design with a Venetian flair. Rooms run 25–31 m² — compact but not cramped — with marble bathrooms and soundproof double windows. Views vary: Steingasse alley, Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzach river, or the historic city. Due to the building's medieval bones, size and layout differ room to room. No espresso machine at this level.

Three suites in total. At 53–55 m², these are the most spacious rooms in the hotel. Artistic stucco ceilings, genuine Barovier & Toso Venetian glass art pieces, and a bathroom with both shower and freestanding bathtub. Two suites face Steingasse for extra quiet; the suite on the 6th floor faces Hohensalzburg Fortress directly. Breakfast is included for direct bookers.

The Kapuzinerberg trail starts directly behind the hotel. Mönchsberg, with its extensive ridge paths and views, is a 10-minute walk. The hotel provides route guidance in rooms.
