Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden
Grand Hotel with deep historic bones — Baroque palace exterior, freshly renovated interior using historic blue and sage green palettes, custom furniture, allergy-friendly sustainable materials. Feels palatial without being stuffy.
Ask for a Palais View Room or Grand Palais View Room — the landmark views over the Zwinger and Royal Palace are worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
The definitive Dresden address. Saxony's first five-star hotel, occupying an 18th-century palace with surviving original facade and staircase. Hosted Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Jacques Chirac, Karl Lagerfeld, and Anna Netrebko among others. The 2016 Bilderberg Conference was held here. Completely renovated in 2024.
Built in 1705 by Augustus the Strong as a gift to his mistress Countess Cosel, the Taschenbergpalais was bombed flat in 1945 and spent decades as a ruin. Reconstruction finished in 1995 — making it Saxony's first five-star hotel — and a full gut renovation completed in February 2024 brought designer Markus Hilzinger's contemporary take on Baroque royalty into every room and corridor. Today it sits directly between the Zwinger Palace and the Royal Palace, with the Semper Opera House a two-minute walk away. That location is essentially unbeatable in Dresden.
