Hotel Tugu Lombok announces itself before you even check in — a giant rooster sculpture perched atop a 15-metre thatched-ceiling open-air restaurant, visible from miles out at sea. This is not a resort that fades into its surroundings. Built across six hectares of mature coconut plantation on the pristine white sands of Sire Beach, it's the creation of Anhar Setjadibrata, a collector-turned-hotelier who spent decades rescuing Indonesian antiques, stone Buddhas, temple relics, and royal artifacts. The result: 36 individually decorated suites and villas where every surface tells a story rooted in the Mahabharata, Majapahit history, and forgotten Lombok culture.
