Centric Kota Kinabalu
Tropical modernism meets lifestyle hotel. Selangan batu hardwood in the lobby, Kadazan-Dusun cultural textures woven through the rooms, and a 23rd-floor double infinity-edge pool that doubles as one of KK's best vantage points. Design-forward without being precious about it.
Request a high-floor, west-facing sea view room for front-row sunset views over the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park islands — you won't need to leave your balcony.
Why It Matters
First Hyatt Centric in Malaysia, and one of the few hotels in KK where the architecture is genuinely worth talking about. Kengo Kuma's design has real personality. The rooftop pool and ON23 Sky Bar together make the 23rd floor the best reason to skip the lobby bar and go straight up.
Malaysia's first Hyatt Centric hotel sits in the dead centre of Kota Kinabalu — walking distance to Jesselton Point Jetty, Suria Sabah mall, and the Sunday market on Gaya Street. Designed by Kengo Kuma (the architect behind Tokyo's Olympic Stadium), the building's louvred timber facade takes cues from the trees of the Bornean jungle. All 222 rooms and 16 suites come with private balconies looking out over either the South China Sea or the green hills behind the city — ask for a high, west-facing room if sunsets matter to you.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The double infinity-edge pool on the 23rd floor is the centrepiece of the hotel's rooftop. Morning sessions offer a clear shot at Mount Kinabalu on the horizon; evening sessions put you beside the ON23 Sky Bar for sunset cocktails. One of the top rooftop pool experiences in KK.
Open around the clock on the 23rd floor, the gym runs Technogym machines with cardio equipment, free weights, and a dedicated stretch zone. The view from the treadmill makes the run considerably more tolerable.
KK's famous Sunday market runs along Gaya Street, about five minutes' walk from the hotel. Local produce, crafts, and street food make it worth an early morning wander. Best experienced before 10 am when it gets crowded.
The hotel is a short walk from Jesselton Point Jetty, where boats depart to the five islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Snorkelling, diving, and beach time are all on the table. The hotel concierge can assist with arrangements.
