Why It Matters
First Relais & Châteaux property in Peru (2010), first 5-star boutique hotel in Cusco, recognized as a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World, and named a Hot Listed Best New Hotel by both Condé Nast Traveler US & UK and Travel + Leisure. The manor itself predates the Spanish conquest of Peru — it stands on the training grounds of an elite Inca army.
Peru's first 5-star boutique hotel and the country's first Relais & Châteaux property. This 16th-century Spanish colonial manor — where Diego de Almagro camped after conquering Peru in 1534 and Simón Bolívar slept after the Battle of Ayacucho in 1825 — was meticulously restored over five years by Inkaterra. Just 11 suites surround a stone central courtyard. The halls are lined with colonial furniture, Pre-Columbian textiles and original murals. Sitting at 3,400 meters above sea level, altitude is real here — they keep oxygen on-hand for all guests.
