Why It Matters
Two Michelin stars at Le Pressoir d'Argent Gordon Ramsay — the only two-star restaurant in Bordeaux. Elected France's Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards two years running (2018 and 2019). First appeared in the Michelin Guide in 1904. The spa won Best Luxury Spa in Western Europe.
Opened in 1789 and designed by architect Victor Louis — the same man who built the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux directly across the square — this is Bordeaux's definitive grande dame hotel. The building sat vacant for 17 years before reopening in 2007 after a thorough restoration. Today it holds 130 rooms and suites designed by Jacques Garcia, a two-Michelin-star restaurant run by Gordon Ramsay, and a 1,000 sqm Guerlain spa on the fifth floor. Victor Hugo once gave a speech on the terrace. The hotel got its first Michelin Guide mention in 1904.

These are the entry-level rooms, but don't let that put you off. Each one has its own character, with 19th-century-inspired décor: Jacques Garcia fabrics, bespoke carpets, and a cosy, refined atmosphere. Compact at 20–25 sqm.

From carpets to drapes, furniture to wall colours, the Junior Suites show a voluptuous aesthetic through a harmony of materials and tones considered down to the last detail. A proper upgrade in space and atmosphere.

At 45 sqm with direct Opera views, these suites embody the spirit of the hotel most purely. The warm atmosphere and incomparable elegance are front and centre, and the view across the square to the Grand Théâtre is the real trophy feature.

At 50 sqm, this suite can be divided into two separate spaces by an internal door — a bedroom and a living area — making it the best pick for families or anyone wanting clear separation between sleeping and lounging. Also listed as Executive Junior Suite.

A generous step up at 35 sqm. The Premium Rooms mix comfort, refinement, and modernity through a considered play of colours and textures. More breathing room than the Classics, and the interiors feel noticeably more layered.

The balcony rooms face the historic centre of Bordeaux. You get a private outdoor space looking out over the Cours de l'Intendance and the National Opera — a real differentiator in a city where outdoor space at a hotel is rare.

Same generous space and design as the standard Premium Rooms, but with the added bonus of direct views over Place de la Comédie and the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Worth the upgrade if you've never seen the opera house lit up at night.
