Built vertically up a cliffside on the Son Tra Peninsula (also called Monkey Mountain), InterContinental Danang sits above its own 700-meter private beach, completely wrapped in rainforest. Opened in 2012 and designed by Harvard-educated architect Bill Bensley, it spans four levels — Heaven, Sky, Earth, and Sea — connected by a funicular railway called the Nam Tram. Michelin-starred La Maison 1888 and the newer Tingara Japanese omakase put it firmly in destination-dining territory, and the whole place has a distinctly whimsical, theatrical personality that no brand-hotel checklist prepared you for.
