Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa
Lush tropical luxury with traditional Thai design — warm colors, Asian art, antique sculptures. Dense jungle greenery everywhere. More Old World resort than minimalist-chic. Feels like it was built to stay, not to trend.
Non-staying spa guests can pay 500 THB to access the pool, bar and restaurant — good to know if you're day-tripping from elsewhere on the island
Why It Matters
Koh Tao's first luxury 5-star spa resort. Home to the island's only in-house bakery. The spa is literally built into a giant rock in the jungle. The Royal Suite features sculptures by French artist Yann Torchet. Member of the Green Leaf Foundation — runs its own desalination plant and biotech septic system so it doesn't drain the island's limited groundwater.
Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa sits on the headland of Thian Og Bay (Shark Bay) on Koh Tao's quieter southern coast — open since 2002, and still one of the island's most serious luxury options. The whole property cascades down a steep jungle hillside, which means spectacular unobstructed sea views from every room, but also a lot of stairs. Think lush tropical gardens, two pools, a proper SSI dive club, and a spa built around a giant rock. It's the kind of place where you genuinely don't need to leave.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The resort runs a complimentary boat shuttle from the diving club to the beach at Thian Og Bay — the resort's 'private' beach — since the hillside property doesn't have direct beach access from the hotel buildings.
Kayaks available for rent from the marina. Good for exploring the bay at your own pace.
Paddleboards available for rent at the marina.
On-site SSI dive school running everything from Discover Scuba intro sessions to Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses. Maximum 2 students per instructor — notably small groups for Koh Tao, where dive schools typically pack students in. Shark Bay right in front of the resort has year-round sightings of sea turtles and blacktip reef sharks. Equipment is modern and well-maintained.
Gear available for rent from the marina. The resort also arranges private snorkeling trips to remote beaches around the island. Shark Bay location means snorkelers can encounter turtles and reef sharks without even getting on a boat.
The resort arranges private boat trips circling Koh Tao — included in the Honeymoon Packages, and available separately for other guests via the tour desk.
