Kamakura COCON
Meditative, intimate Japanese heritage with modern Italian dining. Traditional wooden architecture meets quality contemporary fittings — microbubble baths, Airwave bedding, smart speakers — without feeling contrived.
The restaurant is open to non-guests for both lunch and dinner — reservations must be made at least one day in advance via TableCheck.
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide listed. One of the most exclusive small lodgings in the Kamakura region: just two maisonette suites in a building that dates to 1855, with a counter-seat Italian restaurant that locals and non-guests actively seek out. The property operates more like a private villa than a hotel.
Kamakura COCON is a two-suite guesthouse inside a 170-year-old Edo-period farmhouse in Kamakura's quiet Nikaido district — about an hour south of Tokyo by train. The house has been fully renovated but keeps its exposed ancient beams, tatami rooms, and a garden with a teahouse and bamboo grove intact. Only two guest parties stay per night, full stop.
