Kennebunkport Captains Collection
New England historic inn meets upscale boutique. The feel is residential and intimate — more like staying at a well-appointed friend's mansion than a hotel. Seafaring heritage without being kitschy about it.
Book the Jefferds Carriage House Suite for the most apartment-like privacy — it has a full kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and opens onto River Green
Why It Matters
One of the few places in New England where you can sleep inside a genuine early-1800s sea captain's home — and four of them, all on the same block. Reunited by Lark Hotels in 2021 after each operated separately for decades, the collection now functions as a single 45-room campus. Also bookable through Mr & Mrs Smith / Hyatt.
Four 19th-century Federal-style mansions, all within a two-block radius of each other, form one cohesive boutique inn in the heart of Kennebunkport. Each house has its own distinct personality — from the gold-wallpapered opulence of Nathaniel Lord Mansion to the light-and-bright, artsy vibe of James Fairfield House — but all share the same polished Lark Hotels touch: working fireplaces, plush four-poster beds, and a genuinely warm staff. Rates include breakfast, there's no bar on-site (no liquor license), no pool, and no elevator — so pack light if you're in a top-floor room.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Beach chairs and loaner beach gear available for guests heading to the nearby beaches.
Helmets and bikes are available at no charge. The recommended route crosses the river and heads south along a bridle path following an old rail bed through wooded countryside along the Mousam River. Also useful for riding to nearby beaches.
Expansive gardens with lounge furniture and outdoor fire pits across the campus. Particularly lovely in summer for morning coffee or evening wine (BYOB — no on-site bar).
Staff recommendation: guests can create a custom-blended candle at Sea Love, a nearby local partner business.
A courtesy car is available for guest use for exploring the broader area.
A recommended staff activity: drive Ocean Avenue to the lookout point with views of the Bush family's Walker's Point compound, a landmark Kennebunkport experience.
The property is a five-minute walk from Dock Square, Kennebunkport's main hub of shops, restaurants, and galleries. The harbor is about six minutes on foot.
Yoga mats available to borrow for guests who want to practice on the grounds or in their room.
