Kvosin Downtown Hotel
Historic Nordic-minimalist boutique. Apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes, Sóley organic toiletries, and unique Icelandic folklore-inspired room names. Feels more like a private manor than a hotel chain — intimate, personal, grounded in the city's history.
Aldamót Bar happy hour runs 4–7pm — a great spot to unwind before heading out to dinner
Why It Matters
Occupies one of Reykjavík's earliest multi-family residential buildings, which also holds the distinction of being the first in the city to have central heating. The location is as central as it gets — facing the parliament square. Past tenants of the building include Iceland's first breweries, restaurants, travel services, and medical practices.
A 24-room boutique hotel inside the historic Kirkjuhvoll building on Austurvöllur square — right next door to Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) and Dómkirkjan (Reykjavík's oldest cathedral). The building dates to 1901 and was carefully restored in 2013. High ceilings, hardwood floors, Icelandic folklore touches, and Nespresso machines in every room. The Aldamót Bar downstairs doubles as a breakfast room by morning and a cocktail bar with happy hour by evening.
