Why It Matters
One of the few monastery conversions in the San Gimignano area with a full outdoor pool, a dedicated dinner restaurant (Il Refettorio) set inside the original ancient chapel, and a 19th-century tower suite with a rooftop whirlpool overlooking the medieval towers.
A Capuchin friars' convent built in 1587, La Collegiata became a hotel in 1988 after a decades-long renovation by two Florentine entrepreneurs. Just 20 rooms occupy the old stone buildings, surrounded by a centuries-old park of cypress-covered slopes, with the medieval tower skyline of San Gimignano visible on the next hill. The property now operates under the BZAR Hotels collection and is listed on Tablet Hotels.

The standout room at the property. The Tower Suite occupies the 19th-century stone tower on two levels: the lower floor has the bedroom with a bathtub and shower, and the upper floor opens onto a lounge with a whirlpool tub built for four, looking out at the valley and the medieval towers of San Gimignano. The stones are visibly different in colour — they were salvaged from demolished nearby churches. Nothing else in San Gimignano quite matches this view at night.
