La Pérouse
Sun-soaked Riviera intimacy meets quietly elevated French hospitality. Think 1950s Côte d'Azur with a 2023 update: saffron-yellow façade, wrought-iron balconies, century-old lemon trees in the courtyard, Fragonard toiletries, marble bathrooms. It feels like a private maison rather than a hotel. Warm, personal service is the consistent guest comment.

Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in Nice actually built into the cliff — the pool is literally carved out of the limestone hillside. Rated 7th best hotel in France (outside Paris) in Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2024. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Gault & Millau 'Table Gourmande' recognition for Le Patio restaurant.
La Pérouse is a 4-star boutique hotel carved into the limestone face of Castle Hill (Colline du Château) at the eastern end of Nice's Promenade des Anglais. Open since 1936 and fully renovated in 2023 by Parisian design duo Friedmann & Versace, its 53 rooms and suites sit six floors above Old Town with unobstructed views of the Baie des Anges. The pool is cut directly into the cliff face. That alone is worth the visit.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The beach is a one-minute walk from the hotel — literally step out and turn left. Public Nice beaches plus private beach concessions are all within easy reach. The hotel does not operate its own beach club.
The Castle Hill park and ruins sit directly above the hotel. Walk up or take the free elevator (steps away) for panoramic views of Nice, the port, and the bay. The hotel's position makes this a 5-minute excursion rather than a day trip.
One of the great markets in the south of France, a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Runs Tuesday–Sunday mornings. The hotel concierge can advise on timing and what to look for.
The pool is carved directly into the limestone face of Castle Hill — genuinely one of the most unusual hotel pools on the Riviera. Heated to 24°C, open April through October, 9am to 8pm. Lounge chairs on the cliff-side deck. Pool bar nearby.
Seasonal fire-cooking dinners on the rooftop terrace with Chef Damien Andrews. Wednesday–Saturday evenings May–September 30. €125/person, drinks extra. Must book by phone: +33 4 97 00 19 32.
The panoramic rooftop terrace is open year-round for guests. Sweeping views of the sea and Promenade des Anglais. Evening stargazing is a genuine highlight. In summer it becomes the venue for the Rooftop La Vista brazier dinners (seasonal, additional cost).
