Le Sirenuse
Old-money Italian elegance — the kind that accumulates over generations rather than being designed in a single brief. White-washed walls, museum-quality antiques, majolica floors, and a growing site-specific contemporary art program (Martin Creed, Nicolas Party, Stanley Whitney) that keeps the place feeling alive rather than preserved. Quiet, intimate, and genuinely family-run.
Franco's Bar is first-come, first-served — even hotel guests don't get reservations. Arrive early for sunset.
Why It Matters
Consistently ranked among the world's best: #94 on World's 50 Best Hotels in 2025 (and as high as #20 in 2023), 96.5 points from La Liste in 2026, a Michelin Key (2024), and a Michelin star for La Sponda restaurant. The Sersale family still runs it — the third generation is now involved — and that continuity of ownership is reflected in every curatorial decision, from the antiques to the Eau d'Italie bath products created specifically for the property.
An 18th-century Neapolitan noble family's summer villa that four siblings — Aldo, Anna, Paolo and Franco Sersale — converted into a hotel in 1951. It started with eight rooms and a terrace. It now has 58. Every room is individually furnished with hand-painted Vietri tiles, antique furniture from Franco Sersale's lifelong collecting, and vaulted ceilings typical of Amalfi Coast architecture. The Pompeii-red façade is visible from the sea; John Steinbeck stayed in 1953 and wrote about it in Harper's Bazaar.
