Why It Matters

Les Bords de Mer sits right on the rocks of the Corniche Kennedy, a 1930s Art Deco building originally known as the Richelieu Hotel and completely redesigned by Marseille architect Yvan Pluskwa for Fontenille Collection. All 19 rooms face the Mediterranean — no exceptions — and the effect is immediate: you step in and the horizon just takes over. It pulls off the rare trick of feeling like a seaside resort while putting you five minutes' walk from the Vieux-Port.

Deluxe Sea Room
Steps up from the Superior with a private balcony overlooking the Mediterranean. Same footprint as the Superior, but the outdoor space makes a real difference — you can actually sit outside with your coffee and watch the boats. Comfortable for two, though don't expect to open a large suitcase with ease.

Deluxe Sea View Room
A touch larger than the standard Deluxe, with two balconies giving a wider panoramic angle on the sea. Good for those who want slightly more breathing room without going all the way to the Executive or Suite tier.
22 sqmExecutive Les Bords de Mer
The flagship Executive category, named for the hotel itself. The signature is an oversized 34sqm terrace — you spend more time out there than in the room. Views take in the Château d'If and the Frioul Islands directly. The room itself is still compact, but if you're choosing this, you're buying the terrace.
Executive Pleine Mer
A shaded private terrace is the key upgrade here — larger than a balcony and protected from direct sun, making it genuinely usable throughout the day. The 22sqm (measured total including bathroom) is honest but compact; the terrace extends your effective living space considerably. Accessible for guests with reduced mobility.

The most generous room in the hotel by floor area, with a covered terrace that gives you a proper shaded outdoor living space. Can accommodate an extra bed, making it the best option for a parent travelling with one child. At 35sqm it's still not a sprawling suite, but the layout breathes more freely than the standard rooms.

Superior Sea Room
The entry point, and still a genuine sea-view room. A large bay window runs parallel to the bed so you wake up with the Mediterranean right in front of you. No balcony, but the view is full-on. Compact — this is a 1930s building on a rock — but the quality of the light and outlook compensates. Rooms 15, 16, and 17 have this layout and create a cabin-on-a-ferry sensation.

The Corniche Kennedy is right outside the door — one of the great urban running routes in France, with open sea views the entire way. Hotel staff can provide a route guide.

Seasonal winter rooftop events: sea urchin platters and raclette in partnership with La Meulerie cheese shop, served overlooking the Mediterranean on weekend lunchtimes. Very Marseille, very good.
Every Saturday lunchtime in June, Top Chef Season 17 alumna Louise Perrone (also of restaurant Rouge in Marseille) takes over the rooftop for an exclusive fire-cooking Mediterranean experience. €75/person.
