Sources de Caudalie
Warm, countryside-luxe. Think antique furniture, noble fabrics, wood beams, and Aquitaine craftsmanship — but with the sharpness of a serious wine estate behind it. Not stuffy or gilded. Feels more like a very refined French family home dropped into a vineyard.
Book La Grand'Vigne well in advance, especially for weekends — it's only open Wed–Fri evenings and Sat–Sun lunch and dinner
Why It Matters
Invented Vinothérapie spa treatments in 1999 — grape-seed derivatives as anti-aging actives, drawn from the estate's own wine-making byproducts. The world's first Vinothérapie spa is still here. Add a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant, a working organic Grand Cru vineyard with public access, and Michelin's 3 Keys designation for the overall property experience.
Les Sources de Caudalie sits on the working estate of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, about 20 minutes south of Bordeaux city center. The whole concept hinges on one genuinely unusual fact: there's a natural thermal spring 540 meters below the vineyard, which the Tourbier family used to invent Vinothérapie — grape-derived spa treatments that put vine polyphenols to work on your skin. Sixty-two rooms and suites spread across six cottage-style houses, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant run by Chef Nicolas Masse, and a wine bar stocked with serious Bordeaux. It's the only Palace-rated hotel in Bordeaux, and the first eco-labelled Palace in France.
