Why It Matters
The spa is genuinely unique — built inside a former wartime underground shelter discovered during archaeological excavations, with a thermal pool, tepidarium, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, and Himalayan salt room. The rooftop bistro is led by Palermo chef Giuseppe Calvaruso, previously sous-chef at the two-Michelin-star Duomo di Siracusa. The 'Santamarina Parfums' olfattorio (perfumery experience) next door is a one-of-a-kind add-on.
A 1900 liberty-style building on the pedestrian Via dei Candelai, Locanda Santamarina revives one of Palermo's oldest inns — historically built by Marquis Alessandro Galletti to house merchants and noble travelers, and more recently known as the Hotel Firenze. After a year-long restoration, the Santamarina Group reopened it in 2025 as a 4-star boutique hotel with 19 rooms, a rooftop bistro with panoramic city views, and full access to the remarkable spa and fitness complex housed at the adjacent Palazzo Santamarina. Guests are 100 meters from Quattro Canti and a short stroll to Teatro Massimo.
