Micro Beach Resort, Cape May
Contemporary-rustic minimalist. Residential feel. Anti-hotel hotel. Design-forward but unpretentious. Family-friendly without feeling like a theme park. The 'invisible service' model means guests get privacy and convenience rather than performative hospitality.
Spring is the best value window — pool is open, beach is quieter, and plenty of restaurants are still running
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide-listed and Tablet Hotels-verified, this is the only property of its kind in Cape May — a purpose-built micro-resort with all eight units designed cohesively, a private 45-foot saltwater pool heated up to 90°F (open from early April through early January), and a gear library that lets guests arrive with almost nothing. It was designed by ROHE Creative and occupies over 10,000 sq ft of programmed outdoor space.
Eight apartment-style suites in a single building steps from Howard Beach, owned and operated by Cape May regulars Chad and Courtney Ludeman. The concept is simple: give guests a beautifully designed, fully-stocked home base and then get out of the way. Contemporary-rustic interiors with minimalist decor, full kitchens in every room, a 45-foot heated saltwater pool out back, and zero front-desk staff on site. It's part boutique hotel, part luxury short-term rental — and it genuinely works.

How you'll actually spend your days.
In season, custom lounge chairs and umbrellas are set up for guests directly across the street at Howard Beach, via Steger's Beach Service. Just walk over and tell the attendant you're a Lokal guest. Beach tags are also provided complimentarily.
Each room comes stocked with a beach kit: Yeti cooler, Yeti mugs and water bottles, beach bags, Turkish beach towels, beach chairs, shovels, buckets, a wagon, and yoga mats. Guests can genuinely pack light.
A 45-foot private saltwater pool behind the property, heated to 90°F and open from early April through early January — the longest pool season in Cape May by design. Lounge chairs and umbrellas for up to 16 guests surround the pool, with overflow seating also available. A built-in drinking bench runs the full length of the pool. Pool hours: 9am–9pm daily in season (equipment and music from 10am for a peaceful morning swim).
Selection of board games available in rooms for rainy days or evenings in.
Cornhole, bocce, and slamball sets available in the shared courtyard and lawn area.
Fire pits in the shared outdoor courtyard area, available to guests year-round.
Communal propane grilling station by the pool, stocked with utensils. Outdoor ice maker also available for poolside drinks.
