Why It Matters
Croatia's first and still most architecturally significant design hotel. The 3LHD-designed exterior is genuinely distinctive — guests frequently describe it as a spaceship or docked cruise ship. All interior elements were custom-created for the hotel by Croatian designers and artists, including Numen/For Use (furniture), I-GLE studio (textiles), and artists Ivana Franke and Silvio Vujičić (installations). The in-house Tekka by Lone Japanese restaurant holds Michelin recognition. Year-round operation makes it one of the few Rovinj hotels viable for off-season visits.
Hotel Lone is Croatia's first design hotel — a Y-shaped, six-floor structure that looks like a futuristic cruise ship docked at the edge of the Golden Cape Forest Park. Built in 2011 and designed by Croatian architecture studio 3LHD, virtually every piece of furniture, textile, and art installation was made specifically for this building. Rooms split between sea views and forest views, the spa runs 1,700 sqm, and the on-site Japanese restaurant Tekka by Lone holds Michelin recognition. It sits about 200 metres from the sea and a 15-minute walk from Rovinj's old town — close enough to explore, far enough to feel like you've escaped.
