Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa
Warm, cozy Fuegian lodge energy with proper luxury layered on top. Think roaring fireplaces, a glass-walled winter garden overlooking the water, local cured-leather accents, and L'Occitane amenities in the bathrooms. It punches well above a standard five-star resort in personality — more like a well-appointed end-of-the-world retreat than a corporate hotel.
Book a Beagle Channel view room — the standard rooms face the private neighborhood and partially the mountains, not the water
Why It Matters
The only 5-star hotel with a beachfront position on the Beagle Channel. Holds a Biosphere Hotel Certification (since 2012) for environmental sustainability, and operates its own private 16-passenger boat — the Akawaia — for exclusive channel excursions. No other hotel in Ushuaia offers this combination of location, private water access, and onboard dining.
Los Cauquenes is the only five-star resort sitting directly on the Beagle Channel beach, about 7 km west of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. Privately owned and opened in 2005, the four-level wood-and-stone building is named for the cauquene — the Magellan goose native to these waters. All 45 rooms and suites face either the Channel or the Andes mountains behind, and a private pebble beach is steps from the front door.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Complimentary bikes available to guests for exploring the area. Available October through April (austral spring and summer) only.
The hotel's signature experience. The Akawaia is a private 16-passenger boat that departs from Ushuaia's commercial dock. The 3-hour tour visits Alice Island (Imperial Cormorant colonies), Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, Sea Lion colonies, and Bridges Island (Karelo) — with a three-course onboard meal at the end. Available all year.
Hands-on cooking class with local ingredients and freshly caught seafood including king crab and Patagonian toothfish. Learn the flavors and techniques of End of the World cuisine.
A special evening or lunchtime sail with a dedicated gourmet menu created for the occasion. The Andean mountains and Chilean coastline provide the backdrop. A rare private dining experience on the actual water of the Beagle Channel.
Boat excursion to Martillo Island to observe Magellanic and Gentoo penguin colonies. One of the rare spots in the world where you can walk among penguins on land.
Early morning outings to spot Andean condors, giant woodpeckers, Fuegian steamer ducks, great grebes, and other endemic species across national park habitats including shoreline, mountains, rivers, and wetlands.
Direct access to a private pebble beach on the Beagle Channel. Good for dawn and dusk walks and birdwatching — the cauquenes (Magellan geese) the hotel is named for are often spotted here.
Guided sport fishing excursions in the Beagle Channel and surrounding waters, bookable through the hotel's dedicated tour desk.
Guided overland excursion into the national park via hotel van. Stops at Ensenada Bay, Lake Roca, and Lapataia Bay overlook. The Akawaia meets guests at the water's edge for the return leg along the channel, passing Bridges Islands, Lobo Island (sea lions), Bird Island, and the Eclaireurs Lighthouse.
Seasonal activities available June–September when snowfall covers the landscape. The Ski Point on-property is exclusive to hotel guests during winter.
