Maison Souquet
Belle Époque opulence meets theatre-set intimacy. Heavy drapes, brocade wallpaper, gilded cornicing, nude paintings, Murano glass chandeliers, and a color palette of crimson, peacock, and midnight blue. Feels more like staying inside a 19th-century Parisian novel than a hotel.

Why It Matters
The only Paris hotel operating inside an authenticated former maison close (1905–1907), reimagined by Jacques Garcia — the same designer behind Hôtel Costes and La Mamounia. The subterranean Salon d'Eau spa, with its 10-meter pool under a cobalt and gold-leaf celestial vault, is granted exclusively one hour at a time per guest. Every room tells a specific courtesan's biography through its decor.
Maison Souquet is a 5-star boutique hotel in Paris's 9th arrondissement — a former pleasure house from 1905 that designer Jacques Garcia transformed into one of the city's most theatrical stays. Two red lanterns outside mark an otherwise unremarkable facade on Rue de Bruxelles; inside, you walk straight into a Moorish fantasy of twisted columns, Cordovan leather walls, and velvet-draped salons. All 20 rooms and suites are named after legendary Belle Époque courtesans, each decorated in a distinct style — Napoleon III, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Art Deco — and the hotel has been awarded 'most romantic hotel in the world.'

How you'll actually spend your days.
The Salon des Petits Bonheurs bar — hidden behind a heavy velvet curtain, centered on a wood-burning fireplace and a bar stocked with craft abbey beers, wines, and signature cocktails. Stays open until midnight. Open to non-residents from 5pm.
Non-overnight guests can book day-use access to the hotel, including spa and salons, via a dedicated request form on the hotel's official site.
The Salon des Petits Bonheurs doubles as a library filled with antiquarian books, chess, and backgammon sets — available any time of day or night in the velvet-lined salon.
Each hotel guest receives one exclusive 60-minute slot per day in the Salon d'Eau — a 10-meter indoor pool under a celestial cobalt and gold-leaf vault, plus hammam. Completely private; no one else can use it during your session. Must be reserved on arrival as slots fill quickly.
A small inner garden with ivy and jasmine, accessible through the Winter Garden salon. Smoker-friendly. Bottle-green trellis walls and a swan-neck bench give it a quiet, tucked-away feel.
