Why It Matters
The only Paris hotel operating inside an authenticated former maison close (1905–1907), reimagined by Jacques Garcia — the same designer behind Hôtel Costes and La Mamounia. The subterranean Salon d'Eau spa, with its 10-meter pool under a cobalt and gold-leaf celestial vault, is granted exclusively one hour at a time per guest. Maison Souquet is a 5-star boutique hotel in Paris's 9th arrondissement — a former pleasure house from 1905 that designer Jacques Garcia transformed into one of the city's most theatrical stays. Two red lanterns outside mark an otherwise unremarkable facade on Rue de Bruxelles; inside, you walk straight into a Moorish fantasy of twisted columns, Cordovan leather walls, and velvet-draped salons. All 20 rooms and suites are named after legendary Belle Époque courtesans, each decorated in a distinct style — Napoleon III, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Art Deco — and the hotel has been awarded 'most romantic hotel in the world.'

Six Junior Suites, each named after the most famous grandes horizontales of the Belle Époque: La Belle Otero (Napoleon III), La Paiva I (Empire), La Paiva II (Empire), La Castiglione (18th century), Liane de Pougy I (Indian), Liane de Pougy II (Art Deco). At 30 sqm they're not palatial, but every centimeter delivers: gilded cornicing, brocade wallpaper, antique artwork, sinuous sofas, and paintings of languid bathers. A proper lounge seating area gives space to decompress.

The two largest configurations in the house — La Paiva I & II combined (Empire inspiration), and Liane de Pougy I & II combined (Indian & Art Deco). Each hotel guest receives one exclusive 60-minute slot per day in the Salon d'Eau — a 10-meter indoor pool under a celestial cobalt and gold-leaf vault, plus hammam. Completely private; no one else can use it during your session. Must be reserved on arrival as slots fill quickly.
