Shelter Bordeaux
Playful, design-led urban hangout. Think colorful sofas, retro buoys dangling from the ceiling, a central bar that doubles as a stage, and rooms that are compact but smartly kitted out. Irreverent and social, not precious.
Request a room away from the square-facing side if noise is a concern on Thursday–Saturday nights.
Why It Matters
Founded by the Trigano family and Philippe Starck, Mama Shelter practically invented the affordable-design hotel category in France. The Bordeaux location leans harder into food and drink than most of its siblings — twice the eating and drinking venues of the standard recipe — and sits walkable from almost everything worth seeing in the city centre.
Mama Shelter Bordeaux is a 97-room design hotel that opened in October 2013 inside a converted former gas company headquarters on Place Saint Christoly, right in the historic centre. It runs the full Mama formula: bold, playful interiors co-created with designer Philippe Starck, a lively ground-floor restaurant and bar with DJ sets on Thursday through Saturday, and a 6th-floor rooftop terrace with panoramic views over the city and the Cathédrale Saint André. It's deliberately affordable by Bordeaux standards — the rare style-focused option in a city where most hotels skew luxury.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Live DJ sets in the ground-floor restaurant and bar every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. The music is programmed as part of Mama's brand DNA — expect a mix of house, funk, and pop depending on the night and the DJ.
Periodically scheduled live music performances — DJs and musicians — in the restaurant and bar space. Check the hotel's calendar page for current listings.
Multiple private event spaces available for meetings, workshops, and seminars — ranging from small boardroom-style rooms to larger spaces with TV screens and breakout areas. Catering from the kitchen can be added. Contact events.bordeaux@mamashelter.com or +33 5 57 30 45 25.
A full buffet Sunday brunch running from 12:00 to 4:00pm. Qualified animators provide free childcare for kids from 12:30pm, letting adults eat in relative peace. Seasonal buffet with hot dishes, charcuterie, cheese, pastries, and desserts. Brunch booking is mandatory; available for adults and children (separate pricing).
A giant table football table is a permanent fixture in the restaurant/bar area, part of Mama's playful, games-as-furniture design ethos.
