Shelter Dijon
Colorful, irreverent, maximalist design hotel. Part neighborhood bar, part quirky party venue, part genuinely comfortable place to sleep. The brand has abandoned its earlier spartan aesthetic in favor of layered, locally-referencing décor that feels more curated than chaotic.
Sunday brunch (12:30–4:30pm, €42/adult) includes free childcare via Nanny Please — genuinely useful for families
Why It Matters
It's one of the few genuinely design-forward hotels in Dijon, occupying a landmark Brutalist conversion directly opposite Saint-Bénigne Cathedral. The Michelin Guide singled it out for the quality of its transformation — the public spaces, patio, veranda, and multi-purpose restaurant and bar are as well-conceived as the rooms.
A former 1960s Brutalist insurance office, now one of Dijon's most fun places to sleep. Mama Shelter took this concrete block, put it directly across from the 14th-century Gothic Saint-Bénigne Cathedral, and turned it into 120 rooms full of color and local personality. The décor winks constantly at Burgundy — wine-region motifs on the carpets, Toile de Jouy patterns in the restaurant, a house-brand Dijon mustard made in collaboration with local producer Edmond Fallot — while architect Benjamin El Doghaïli replaced any trace of corporate minimalism with a warm, maximalist energy that actually works.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Private cinema screenings for groups. Book the CinéMama room for movie nights with friends, family gatherings, or team events.
Private karaoke rooms with TVs and sofas. Bookable for groups — popular for birthday parties, bachelorette/bachelor events, and corporate team nights out.
Modular meeting rooms for seminars, conferences, birthdays, bachelor/ette parties, and private events. Various sizes available. Catering can be arranged. Contact events.dijon@mamashelter.com.
A pétanque pitch outside the hotel. One of Mama's signature activities at this property — free to use and perfectly located for a pre-dinner game.
Every Sunday, the brunch (12:30–4:30pm) includes live music. Free childcare is also available via Nanny Please (reservation required). A well-established local event.
Live DJ sets in the restaurant and bar every weekend. This is why the hotel has a reputation as the liveliest place in Dijon after dark — and why light sleepers should request rooms away from the public areas.
Wine tastings available at the hotel, with a strong focus on Burgundy producers. The wine list covers AOC Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, Côte de Nuits-Villages, and more from local domaines like David Duband, Antoine Olivier, and Domaine Huguenot.
