Barcelona
Contemporary luxury in a historic bank building. Patricia Urquiola interiors — clean, warm, and tailored. Strong Catalan identity without being a theme park about it.
Book Moments well in advance — it's open Tuesday–Saturday for dinner only (and lunch on Saturday), and tables go fast
Why It Matters
One of Barcelona's top addresses for fine dining — Moments carries a Michelin star and is led by one of Spain's most decorated culinary families. The building itself is a genuine heritage piece on Passeig de Gràcia. Interiors by Patricia Urquiola. Award-winning spa with a World Champion massage therapist on staff.
A former bank building on Barcelona's most prestigious boulevard, the Mandarin Oriental sits smack in the middle of what locals call the Golden Square — the stretch of Passeig de Gràcia flanked by Gaudí's Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. The hotel opened in 2009 (second wing added in 2014), and architect Carlos Ferrater kept the stately mid-20th-century facade intact while Patricia Urquiola redesigned the interior with a light-filled, eight-storey atrium and her signature warm-cool palette of whites, oak, and rich textiles. It's contemporary without being cold. And the food program here is genuinely exceptional — Moments, the Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by Raül Balam and Carme Ruscalleda, is reason enough to book a table even if you're not staying.
