- Jhilwara Haveli
Design-forward heritage boutique. Indo-Italian aesthetic with original architectural bones: jaali latticework, hand-carved pillars, chandeliers, graceful archways. Arts and culture-focused programming — live flute and santoor, poetry readings, book sessions. Calm and literary in feel.
Book a pool-facing breakfast slot early — the City Palace view at that hour is the hotel's best moment
Why It Matters
Tablet Hotels–listed heritage haveli where a genuinely interesting Indo-Italian studio (Taro Studio) did the interiors rather than the usual Rajasthani folk-art treatment. The rooftop pool looks directly at the City Palace. The building's own story — from royal residence to poultry farm to boutique hotel — is more compelling than most.
A 30-room boutique hotel built in 1910 as the private residence of the Jhilwara royal house (Solanki Rajput clan) that has since been — across its long life — a school, a nursery, and a working poultry farm. Design practice Taro Studio, working between India and Italy, stripped out the expected Rajasthani palette and replaced it with white, grey, and sage, punctuated by bursts of lake-blue and terracotta. The result is a heritage building that looks more like a Milanese courtyard than a Rajasthani haveli — which, in Udaipur, is the whole point.
