Why It Matters
Masaharu Morimoto's first European restaurant is housed here. The building itself — a restored 19th-century wine cellar castle — is genuinely one-of-a-kind. A 19th-century honey-coloured castle in the Chartrons wine merchants' district, converted into a 5-star hotel by Philippe Starck and opened in November 2023. The building was once the cellar of Maison Calvet, one of Bordeaux's most storied wine houses. Starck plays it at his most Romantic — every space loaded with warm tones, trompe-l'oeils, exotic wood, leather couches, and stone — and it genuinely does feel like walking into someone's very grand private home.

Named for the property itself. Full suite with private outdoor space and soaking tub. More room for Starck's design signatures to breathe. The suite category where the lounging areas and heritage touches really come into their own.

The top suite category. Up to 560 sq ft with a generous private terrace, separate living space, soaking tub, and the full Starck treatment — an illuminated mirror, separate sink, the works. The bed sits against a wall-mounted mirror — a signature Mondrian touch.

A step up in the room hierarchy — hand-crafted Starck furnishings and premium Malin+Goetz bathroom amenities in a contemporary stone-clad bathroom. Larger than Deluxe. Still compact by some 5-star standards but confidently designed.

Premier-level finishes with the added luxury of a private terrace. Spacious terrace opens to outdoor seating. Perfect for breakfast with a glass of Bordeaux.

The entry-level room. Compact at around 25 m², but Starck's design signatures are still present — trompe-l'oeils on walls, warm neutral palette, natural materials. Stone-clad bathrooms, Lavazza espresso machine, minibar. Soundproof windows help.
