Montecarmo12 is a 10-room adults-only boutique hotel in Príncipe Real — Lisbon's most design-conscious neighborhood — that opened in 2023 inside a restored historic building. Architecture firm Aires Mateus, the Portuguese brothers known for geometric minimalism, handled every detail: the Lioz limestone bathrooms, the signature spiral staircase, the bespoke stone bathtubs carved from single blocks of Portuguese stone. At 31 m², the Deluxe steps up in space and bed size — a king (200x180cm) instead of the queen in the Superior. These rooms face the quiet Travessa do Montecarmo, so the street sounds are minimal. The signature Aires Mateus stone bathtub is the bathroom centerpiece; the Deluxe version includes both a freestanding stone tub and separate shower, designed for two.
