Why It Matters
First Moxy in Canada. The entire check-in paradigm is replaced by a bar transaction: no front desk exists. Every guest gets a welcome drink. The lounge hosts live DJs and musicians mid-week. QR codes, hidden Easter eggs, and an actual secret room are scattered throughout the property.
Canada's first Moxy hotel, open since January 2024, and it skips every convention of the traditional hotel stay. Check-in happens at Bar Moxy — you get a poker chip, redeem it for a free drink, and you're already in the vibe. The design leans hard into Halifax's maritime and industrial past: shipping container shapes in room layouts, mooring rope details, a cannon parked next to a Pac-Man cocktail table, and carpet patterned with passport stamps (one dated 1867, the year of Confederation). There are 160 rooms across 7 floors, including 18 kitchenette studios — compact, colorful, and designed for people who treat their room as a launchpad rather than a living room.

2 Queen Guestroom
Double queen layout with the beds arranged headboard-to-headboard — a quirky but intentional configuration that gives each bed a sense of privacy. The only drawers are under the bed. Pegs line the wall but compete with the TV, desk, and fridge for space. Feels more like a well-designed dorm than a conventional hotel room.
2 Queens4-Twin Bunkbed Room
Two sets of bunk beds — the room that comes with the most welcome drink chips at check-in (one per guest). Popular with friend groups. It's genuinely compact, but for a group splitting the cost, it's solid value. Expect zero drawer space; you live out of your suitcase here.
4 Twin Bunks (sleeps 4–8)King Corner Studio
The largest room in the house. Full kitchenette plus a proper dining table for four — though max occupancy is two. Corner position. Best option for couples who want to cook, spread out, and not feel the compact-Moxy-room pressure. Some units have partial city views.

The standard king option comes with a full desk (not fold-down), walk-in shower, open peg wall closet, and the same Moxy industrial-fun touches. More workspace than the queen rooms.

Mobility and hearing accessible room with a roll-in shower. Grab rails, toilet at wheelchair height, lowered viewports in door.
1 KingKing Studio
One of 18 studios with a full kitchenette: stovetop, microwave, fridge, kitchenware. Parquet floors. Window table for dining. Tea and coffee maker included (unlike standard rooms). This is the go-to for anyone staying more than a couple of nights or wanting a bit more self-sufficiency.

Compact single-queen room with the signature Moxy industrial layout — long and narrow, evoking a shipping container. Fold-down desk, open wall peg system instead of a closet, walk-in shower, streaming TV, and a cherry-red minifridge. Retro in-room phone, magnetic whiteboard, and tear-away Halifax maps are the fun touches. Storage is minimal: pegs on the wall, no traditional drawers.

Queen bed version of the studio with a kitchenette — stovetop, fridge, microwave, kitchenware. Window table. Tea and coffee maker. Parquet floors. Good for a solo traveler or couple who wants the kitchenette without the king bed premium.

The hotel hosts live musician performances and DJ sets several times per week in the Bar Moxy lounge. The DJ booth is a permanent fixture in the lobby space.
QR codes scattered throughout the hotel unlock hidden content and experiences. The property includes a secret room and various Easter egg details — including Canadian history references, a cannon, and a Pac-Man cocktail table — for guests to discover.
