Otro Oaxaca
Brutalist-meets-artisanal. Exposed concrete, endemic green limestone floors, suede, resin, and metal throughout. Every piece of furniture was handcrafted by local Oaxacan artisans. The vibe is intentionally local — quiet rooms that contrast with genuinely buzzing communal spaces. This is not a resort; it's a city base for people who want to move through a place like they belong there.
Book the Town House if budget allows — four stories, private plunge pool on the top terrace, and views that justify the splurge
Why It Matters
Grupo Habita co-founders Carlos Couturier and Moisés Micha are the defining force behind design-forward boutique hotels in Latin America. Otro Oaxaca is their most architecturally considered property yet — João Boto Caeiro of RootStudio drew the floor plan from Zapotec geometry and used nothing that couldn't be sourced locally. It's also a Member of Design Hotels and bookable through Marriott Bonvoy.
Grupo Habita's fourth property in Oaxaca sits directly across from the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán on pedestrian-only Calle Alcalá. Behind an unassuming historic façade is a raw, contemporary compound — cross-shaped walkways referencing the nearby Zapotec ruins of Mitla, brick and limestone pulled straight from Santo Domingo's palette, reclaimed railroad-tie wood lining the entrance corridor. Sixteen rooms, two food and drink outlets, an underground spa called Otro Mundo, and a 30-foot rooftop pool with arguably the best view in Oaxaca City.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A shared table for up to 24 guests on the rooftop, where Chef Saúl Carranza's team cooks directly over an open charcoal grill. The menu centers on locally sourced Oaxacan products. This is a communal, social experience — not a private dinner.
A 30-foot pool running down the center of the rooftop terrace, directly facing Santo Domingo church. Endemic green limestone floors, brick walls, lounge chairs and day-beds. Sunsets here reflect off the stone facade of the Ex Convento de Santo Domingo — genuinely one of the best pools-with-a-view in Mexico.
Located beside the main ground-floor patio, The Búnker is a hybrid room for co-working, reading, or meetings during the day — and flips to a venue for film screenings, live music performances, and local cultural events in the evenings. Open to guests and locals alike.
