Why It Matters
Multi-award-winning hotel designed by Woods Bagot (the firm behind The Ivy in Sydney), with every public space and guest room functioning as a rotating art installation. The October 2024 launch of the Above Rooftop Pool & Bar added a proper public destination to the property — cocktails by award-winning mixologist Jake Down, Mediterranean share plates, DJs on weekends.
Ovolo The Valley is a 103-room boutique hotel sitting inside the Emporium Precinct on Ann Street in Fortitude Valley — Brisbane's most electric entertainment district. The hotel is a genuine design statement: custom wallpaper, bold colour palettes, commissioned artworks from emerging Australian artists, and room concepts named after rock legends. It's loud in the best possible way. The rooftop has recently been reimagined as Above, an open-air Mediterranean bar and pool terrace that's open to the public Wednesday through Sunday.

King · 40 sqmLarge Spa Room
The same generous open-plan layout as the Large, but with a private spa bath added to the ensuite. Velvet bedhead, chaise lounge, workspace, bathrobes and slippers, plus the same art and wallpaper treatment. A solid step up for anyone after a soak without springing for a full suite.
Medium
The entry-level option, designed for solo travellers or anyone who just needs a well-appointed base. At 27m², it's compact but not cramped. Queen bed, designer wallpaper, original artworks by Lisa Madigan, and all the tech — Alexa, Chromecast, rain shower. Good value for a high-design neighbourhood hotel.

Two themed suites — Purple Rain (Prince) and Major Tom (David Bowie) — at 76m² each. The most theatrical rooms in the house: separate lounge with a private bar, dining table, armchairs, record player, and original artworks by Daniel R. Watkins and Gerwyn Davies. Two bathrooms, one with a standalone tub, plus a 65-inch TV and a small balcony. These are genuinely fun. Don't be surprised if you spend half the stay just exploring the room.

Top-floor suites with the headline feature: a private balcony overlooking Fortitude Valley. At 48m², they feel properly spacious. King bed, working desk, expansive ensuite, Alexa and Chromecast throughout. The views alone justify the upgrade over the standard Large rooms.
