Pátio do Tijolo
Zen minimalist meets Portuguese craft. Industrial concrete and micro-cement bones softened by Berber rugs, handmade ceramics, verdant green-glazed bathroom tiles, parquet floors, and curated mid-century design pieces — Hans Werner tables, Salvador chairs by Catalan designer Miguel Milá. Communal, slow-living by design.
The entrance is genuinely easy to miss — look for the simple steel-plated door on Calçada do Tijolo
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide-listed and Tablet Hotels-curated boutique that opened in January 2024. It is built on a former carpentry yard and only accessible through a hidden passageway. Strong sustainability credentials: solar-powered energy, native tree planting, zero single-use plastic, and vegan room amenities. Communal spaces — courtyard, shared kitchen, Loureiro salon — are genuinely the heart of the hotel rather than an afterthought.
A 24-room boutique hotel that opened in January 2024, reached through a steel-plated gate on a cobblestoned hillside street between Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real. The building sits on the footprint of a former timber yard, designed by Carina Seelig of Base Geométrica and styled by Barcelona-born siblings Juan and Natalia Tubella. It runs on solar power, bans single-use plastic, and trades the standard lobby for a shared kitchen, leafy courtyard, and a lounge where fresh pastel de nata shows up daily.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The central patio garden — with jacarandas, lemon and pomegranate trees, banana palms, and tropical plants — is open to all guests throughout the day. One of the hotel's defining draws.
The Loureiro salon holds a personally curated book collection selected by the Tubella siblings. A genuine spot to sit and read, not a decorative shelf.
During summer months, the hotel hosts outdoor movie nights in the courtyard garden. Not formally scheduled — ask reception which evening they are on during your stay.
