Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel
Aristocratic Italian palazzo turned five-star hotel. Old-world gravitas with modern comfort woven in — stone mazzaro interiors, bespoke local-artisan furnishings, a glass lift inside a sweeping stone staircase. Quiet and formal by day, atmospheric by candlelight at night.

Why It Matters
One of the only true palazzo-style luxury hotels in Matera — a UNESCO World Heritage city. The entire cast and director of No Time to Die (James Bond) stayed here during filming in Matera. It is a Michelin Guide-selected property and a member of Leading Hotels of the World, with a spa dug into ancient Roman cisterns and the sole bar occupying Piazza Duomo.
Palazzo Gattini sits right on Piazza Duomo at the highest point of Matera, in a 17th-century noble residence that was home to the Gattini Counts for over six centuries. Unlike almost every other upscale stay in Matera, you are not sleeping in a cave. Instead you get vaulted stone ceilings, Roman fountain-style bathtubs, and a family tree still displayed on the walls — all carefully restored by architect Ettore Mocchetti in 2008. The spa is carved into the palazzo's original cisterns, the bar is the only one on Piazza Duomo, and one suite has its own private terrace pool with views over the Sassi.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A daily wellness program designed for business travelers combining work-friendly services at the hotel with structured relaxation time. Sold as a package for those combining work with leisure in Matera.
A guided itinerary through three noble palaces in Matera's historic center, including hidden frescoes and contemporary art installations in unexpected dialogue with the ancient architecture.
Matera served as a major filming location for the 2021 Bond film No Time to Die. The hotel — which hosted director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Daniel Craig, and Léa Seydoux during production — organizes a dedicated tour of the film's key locations around the city. Available as a standalone experience and also offered free with a 3-night stay via a partnership with Ferula Viaggi.
Matera by three-wheeled Ape Calessino scooter car — a genuinely fun way to navigate the historic center and its symbolic piazzas. Guests consistently call this a highlight. Sunset timing makes it especially good.
A hands-on cooking class focused on the traditional food culture of Basilicata (Lucania). Learn to prepare regional dishes using seasonal local ingredients — a practical way to take something from the trip home.
A guided walk through the ancient cave districts of Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso — the rock-carved neighborhoods that made Matera a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel arranges this as part of several packages and can organize private guides.
