Palazzo Talìa
Cinematic and cerebral — Guadagnino's saturated color palette and theatrical instincts run through the common areas, while the 25 guest rooms (designed separately by MIA Home Design Gallery and Laura Feroldi Studio) are warmer and more domestically elegant. Think private Roman collector's home, not grand hotel.
Book a courtyard-facing room if noise is a concern — the inner courtyard is serene even in high season
Why It Matters
The only hotel designed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers). Built inside the oldest school in Rome, which housed humanists, cardinals and aristocrats before closing in 1999. The Aqua Virgo aqueduct, commissioned by Augustus and still functional, literally runs beneath the spa.
Palazzo Talìa is a 16th-century Roman palazzo — the former Nobile Collegio del Nazareno, oldest scholastic institution in Rome — converted into a 26-room luxury boutique hotel and reopened in May 2024. The public spaces were designed by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino's Studio Luca Guadagnino, marking the director's first hospitality project: bold floral carpets, blown-mirror bar walls, plissé-leather stair rails, and 18th-century frescoes share space without fighting for attention. It holds 2 Michelin Keys and landed on the Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2025, TIME World's Greatest Places 2025, and GQ's Most Stylish Hotels on the Planet 2025, among others.
