Hellmann Schlosshotel
Golden Twenties Art Deco glamour meets fashion-world sensibility. Think black-and-white pinstripe fabrics, velvet, oversized designer beds, and an atmosphere that feels more private members' club than conventional hotel.
Book the conservatory table for breakfast — garden views from that sun-flooded room are genuinely special.
Why It Matters
One of Berlin's most historically rich small luxury hotels — the guest list over the years includes Robert Kennedy, Josephine Baker, Errol Flynn, and the Rolling Stones (who famously trashed some priceless porcelain in 1965). The 110 sqm Karl Lagerfeld Suite remains unchanged from his original design. Named 'Leading Boutique Hotel Germany' at the World Travel Awards and a Forbes Travel Guide Award winner in 2023.
A 1914 Italian Renaissance palace tucked in Berlin's leafy Grunewald residential quarter, the Schlosshotel started life as the private home of Walther von Pannwitz — Kaiser Wilhelm II's personal legal adviser and, reportedly, the Kaiser's first overnight guest. Fashion designer Patrick Hellmann took over in 2014, layering his own art-forward, tuxedo-chic aesthetic onto interiors that Karl Lagerfeld had previously worked on. The result is 53 rooms across two buildings: gold leaf and Prussian portraits coexist with Lalique crystal fittings and large-format fashion photography, all overlooking a manicured private park.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Cycling routes through Grunewald and the wider southwest Berlin green belt. The hotel can arrange bicycle hire.
The Grunewald forest begins effectively at the hotel's doorstep. Trails wind through pine forest, past the Grunewald lake and toward the historic hunting lodge across the water. The hotel concierge can suggest routes.
Complimentary or included shuttle service running guests into central Berlin — useful given the residential location away from the U-Bahn.
The palace building, garden, and interiors can be booked for professional or personal photo shoots. The hotel has packages that leverage the architectural surroundings.
A curated experience with a Rolls-Royce Ghost — either a chauffeured city tour or self-drive option. The hotel can also arrange a private visit to the authorised Rolls-Royce Motor Cars showroom in Berlin.
The palace and its five dedicated event rooms (over 1,000 sqm total) can accommodate 10 to 400 guests. The garden pavilion, Musikzimmer, Vestibule, and Bibliothek are all available. Exclusive full-hotel buyouts are possible.
