Rachamankha
Lanna-revival courtyard sanctuary — serene, art-heavy, adults-only atmosphere with a strong sense of scholarly calm. Think Chinese porcelain sinks, silk-draped canopy beds, hand-carved doors, and a 20-metre pool that guests often have entirely to themselves.
Book a Deluxe room or higher to get the king canopy bed with silk drapes — the Superior rooms have standing showers only and feel noticeably smaller
Why It Matters
Michelin Key hotel recognition in both 2024 and 2025. The sole Secret Retreats property in northern Thailand. Architecture designed by the owner as a deliberate homage to Chiang Mai's Lanna golden age. The property actively collaborates with Chiang Mai University of Fine Arts to platform emerging regional artists.
Rachamankha sits just 70 meters from the southwest corner of Wat Phra Singh inside Chiang Mai's old city walls — and yet it feels completely apart from street life outside. The main building is modeled after a chapel of the Wat Phra That Lampang Luang temple, and the hotel is laid out as a series of pavilions around two manicured courtyard gardens, covering two full acres. Owner Rooj Changtrakul has filled every corridor with 19th-century Chinese furniture, rare Buddhist manuscripts, Burmese artworks, Lao antiques, and contemporary pieces from regional artists — making the whole property feel more like a private art collection you happen to sleep in than a hotel.
