Why It Matters
Nomada Hotel Group is the SLO-based indie hospitality outfit rescuing forgotten Central Coast properties, and River Lodge is their most ambitious restoration yet. First Nomada property to debut a full capsule furniture collection designed in-house. Listed on the Michelin Guide. The Ciao Papi restaurant has become a local destination in its own right.
A 1947 roadside motel — originally called The Suburban Lodge, sitting vacant for decades — brought back to life by Nomada Hotel Group after a two-and-a-half-year restoration. The Googie architecture (those clean 1950s space-age lines) was carefully preserved; everything inside was gutted and rebuilt with custom Nomada Deco furniture. Twenty-eight rooms open directly onto three acres of rose gardens, lawns, and fire pits. The pool is adults-only, the restaurant is seasonal and poolside, and the whole thing has a distinctly Palm Springs-in-wine-country feel.

The largest and most social room on the property. At 500 sq ft, it has its own dedicated bar and lounge area separate from the bedroom — genuinely useful for entertaining. King bed with a bedside fireplace, wrap-around porch, and Bolivian hammock. Full standard amenity package.

Steps up from the Cozy King with the addition of a fireplace and a front porch with a hand-woven Bolivian hammock and yard. The extra 75 square feet makes a noticeable difference. The entry-level king. Compact but smartly designed with a dedicated workspace and a front porch with a yard. No fireplace at this tier. One of the better room choices on the property. Has a fireplace, a front porch with a Bolivian hammock, and — the real draw — a private backyard with both a fire pit and an outdoor shower. The outdoor shower is a standout feature. Same full amenity package as all rooms.

Largest single-room configuration at 350 sq ft. Queen bed but a private backyard with fire pit, a wrap-around porch, a workspace, and a fireplace. Good pick for solo travelers or couples who want generous outdoor space over a king bed.
1 Queen BedDeluxe Suite - King
A proper two-room suite: living room with a full-size pull-out sofa bed plus a separate bedroom with a King bed and fireplace. Glass doors open to a private backyard with both a fire pit and outdoor shower. The pull-out sofa gives it some flexibility for a third person. ADA version available.
1 King BedPod Room
Inspired by Japanese capsule hotels, this is the smallest room on the property — genuinely micro. Has everything you need (fireplace, mini bar, Fable Rune bath products, bathrobe, 40" smart TV, Keurig, Bluetooth speaker, full climate control) but almost nothing spare. There's a small front porch with a yard. Works for a solo traveler who spends most of their time outside.

A kidney bean-shaped heated outdoor pool surrounded by daybeds, chaise loungers, and retro pool floats. Hot tub adjacent. Strictly 21+ for all guests and day pass visitors. Open 9am-10pm daily, code provided at check-in. Day passes available for non-hotel guests (advance purchase recommended, availability limited).
Communal fire pits scattered throughout the rose garden courtyard. The lobby larder sells s'mores kits. Good spot after Ciao Papi closes — the pool and hot tub run until 10pm.
Complimentary fleet of classic Linus bike cruisers available for guest use. Waiver required. Good for reaching nearby tasting rooms or exploring the neighborhood.
A curated in-lobby provisions shop with artisanal snacks, gourmet sweets, fresh juices, craft beer, local wine, and sundries including s'mores kits. Useful for stocking up before heading out to wine country or for late-night cravings.
Weekend music programming poolside at Ciao Papi — DJ sets on Saturdays, live musicians on Sundays. Part of the warm-season programming.
Complimentary pour of Skyview Rosé served in the lobby lounge every Friday and Saturday from 3-5pm. Included with all stays at no extra charge.
