Why It Matters

The albergo diffuso format means rooms are genuinely scattered across an ancient neighbourhood — the walk between reception and your room is itself a highlight. Sant'Angelo is what happens when an entire neighbourhood becomes your hotel. The owners have converted 33 historic cave dwellings and palazzo rooms across the Sasso Caveoso into one sprawling property, connected by stone stairways, alleys and open-air courtyards rather than carpeted hallways. Rooms range from genuine grottos carved out of limestone rock to whitewashed palazzo chambers with private terraces looking straight out over Piazza San Pietro Caveoso and the ravine beyond — and no two feel alike.

The largest of the palazzo rooms at around 55 sqm — comfortably fits 2 to 4 guests. Every room in this category comes with either a natural terrace or a balcony with panoramic views. The most generous space in the main Sant'Angelo property, short of La Torre.

Same cave atmosphere as the Grotta Patio — rock walls, arched ceilings, the works — but this one earns its name through direct panoramic views over Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. No patio, but the view out over the square is hard to beat.
