Barcelona
Contemporary Catalan-industrial boutique luxury. Urban and polished rather than grand or palatial. Feels more like a very well-designed private residence than a hotel. The crowd skews sophisticated European traveler.
The Informal rooftop restaurant is open to non-guests — worth booking for sunset tapas even on a non-stay visit
Why It Matters
One Michelin Key winner (2024, 2025). Condé Nast Traveler Gold List 2019–2021. Only 28 rooms so service is genuinely personal. Historic Picasso connection is real, not invented marketing. Two serious on-site restaurants — Agreste Mar (1 Sol Repsol) and the rooftop Informal — both worth booking even if you're not staying.
Serras Barcelona is a 28-room, five-star boutique hotel sitting right where Barcelona's Gothic Quarter meets Port Vell marina. The 1846 building was designed by Francesc Daniel Molina — the same architect behind Plaça Reial — and, more famously, housed a teenage Pablo Picasso's first studio in 1896. That history is baked into the walls without being shoved in your face. Interior designer Eva Martínez layered industrial-height ceilings, iron, wood, and traditional hydraulic tile motifs against sharp contemporary furnishings, producing something that feels simultaneously old-city Barcelona and very much now. The rooftop pool deck on the sixth floor, overlooking luxury yachts in Port Vell and out to the Mediterranean, is the main event for most guests — and rightly so.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Private tour of the Penedès wine region to discover the appellation of origin. Includes visiting producers of cava and still wine in one of Spain's most important wine regions, about an hour from Barcelona.
A full Picasso deep-dive built around the hotel's historical connection. Guests paint on the rooftop terrace where Picasso had his first studio in 1896 — specifically where 'Ciencia y Caridad' was produced. Then a private 4-hour guided tour of Picasso-related sites around Barcelona, followed by entry to the Picasso Museum, and finally a special Picasso-themed menu at Informal restaurant.
The rooftop can be hired for private events — from intimate dinners to celebrations for up to 70 guests. Outdoor heating available year-round.
Sixth-floor plunge pool on the terrace overlooking Port Vell marina and the Mediterranean Sea. Comfortable lounge chairs. Pool lighting at night. Scented wooden decking adds a yacht-like feel.
Local DJs curate the soundtrack on the rooftop terrace on summer weekends. Creates an elevated cocktail bar atmosphere without being intrusive.
