Opened in 1901 by French investors as the largest hotel in Indochina, the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has been carrying the weight of history for over 120 years and wearing it well. Two wings, two eras: the Heritage Wing is colonial Hanoi — hardwood floors, whirring ceiling fans, Indochinese details — while the Opera Wing goes full neoclassical with bold black, white and red interiors. And underneath the Bamboo Bar? A wartime bomb shelter that once sheltered Joan Baez and Jane Fonda during the 1960s air raids, now open for guided tours. This is the hotel that earned the Sofitel Legend designation first, on July 1, 2009, setting the bar for the entire collection.
