Square Nine Hotel
Mid-century modernist design hotel with jet-age romance and Scandinavian furniture credentials. Understated, not showy. The kind of place architects and design people stay when they visit Belgrade.

Why It Matters
Belgrade's only genuine design-forward luxury boutique hotel, designed by Isay Weinfeld — the same Brazilian architect behind some of São Paulo's finest buildings. Forbes named it one of the best new hotels of 2011; Condé Nast Traveler put it on its Hot List in 2012. Still the city's benchmark property over a decade later.
Belgrade needed one great design hotel, and Square Nine is it. Conceived by Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld, this seven-story, 45-room property overlooks Studentski Trg — one of the city's most handsome green squares — in the Old Town quarter. The Bauhaus-inflected facade fits neatly among its Secessionist neighbors, while inside it's all mid-century Danish and American furniture, burnished Cumaru wood paneling, and the kind of quiet confidence that doesn't need to shout. It's a proper Leading Hotels of the World member: two-staff-per-room ratio, airport transfers in a Range Rover or Mercedes Viano, and a rooftop Japanese restaurant that draws non-guests on its own merit.
