Why It Matters
Grade II listed Edwardian Baroque building with original 1906 interiors preserved throughout. The only Manchester hotel named in The Times Top 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK, and a TripAdvisor Best of the Best winner (top 1% of 8 million properties). Restaurant tender is led by Niall Keating — the UK's youngest two-Michelin-starred chef. Sterling Bar operates in the original bank vault below the building.
A 1906 Edwardian Baroque masterpiece on Norfolk Street, the former Manchester Stock Exchange sat empty for decades before co-owners Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, and hotelier Winston Zahra turned it into one of the city's most remarkable hotels in 2019. The original marble floors, brass fittings, ornate domed ceilings, and mosaic tilework were all kept intact. In 2024, the hotel joined Marriott's Autograph Collection and brought in two Michelin-starred chef Niall Keating to run the restaurant — now one of the strongest dining destinations in the North of England.

Formerly the actual boardroom of the Manchester Stock Exchange. You access it via a private staircase from the lobby — which immediately sets the tone. Inside: meticulously restored original features including marble pillars, original wood panelling, and ornamental details from 1906. At 171 sqm it's an extraordinarily characterful room unlike anything else in Manchester. One king bed, maximum 2 guests.

Bradshaw Collection Room
The first tier where you get both a walk-in shower and a freestanding bathtub. Named after Bradshaw of 'Bradshaw, Gass and Hope', the firm that designed the original building. At up to 42 sqm, there's genuine space to move around. Roll-away beds for children up to 12 available in these rooms.

The smallest rooms in the hotel — intimate and well thought-out. Named after one of the architects of the building. Double bed rather than king, walk-in shower (no bath), and all the standard luxury amenities. Good for solo travellers or couples who won't be spending much time in the room.

On select Saturdays (June, October, December), the Hallé Orchestra performs live in tender restaurant during afternoon tea service. Curated sweet and savoury tea paired with live classical performance. From £40 per person.
The hotel's public spaces — lobby, restaurant, bar, and corridors — are themselves the attraction. Original mosaic floors, the domed trading floor ceiling, preserved marble and brass from 1906. The concierge can provide historical context and the hotel's news section has extensive background on the building's history.
Live music every Friday and Saturday 8pm to 11:30pm in the underground bank vault bar. Varies by week — check the Sterling Bar website for what's on.
