The Blake Hotel
Design-forward urban boutique. Think warm wood tones, curated fine art prints, oversized windows, and Yale-blue textiles — contemporary without being cold. The lobby has a fireplace. The rooftop has a retractable glass ceiling. It's polished but not stuffy.
High George rooftop is currently open to the public only on Friday and Saturday evenings — book ahead if that's your main reason for coming
Why It Matters
The best-appointed hotel in New Haven by a clear margin. Unusually generous room sizes for a city property, kitchenettes in every room (with Nespresso and Williams Sonoma kitchenware), and two distinct dining venues including a rooftop bar with retractable glass roof. The hotel also maintains a 6th-floor art gallery with rotating exhibitions from Connecticut-based artists — a genuinely unusual amenity.
The Blake is a 108-room boutique hotel at the corner of High and George Streets in downtown New Haven, two blocks from Yale. Rooms mix classic and industrial design with actual apartment-style functionality — every room has a kitchenette, and the suites genuinely feel like you could live there for a month. Named after Alice Blake, the first female graduate of Yale Law School, the hotel leans hard into local identity while keeping the quality level well above what you'd expect for this market.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A curated art gallery on the 6th floor featuring rotating exhibitions and openings year-round from New Haven and Connecticut-based contemporary artists. Permanent collection includes ceramic sculptures, photography, and painting from artists including Amanda Duchen-Clay, Gar Waterman, and Mark St. Mary. Adjacent to the High George rooftop bar. Quiet and worth browsing even outside of formal openings.
Guests can access discounted classes at Club Pilates and Wheelhouse Cycling Studio — both within walking distance — with proof of stay. No spa on-site, but these partnerships fill the gap for fitness-focused guests.
The hotel sits two blocks from Yale's main campus. Walking maps and neighborhood guides are provided in every room to help guests get oriented.
