Why It Matters

One of the hotels that genuinely transformed the Bowery neighborhood, the hotel earned its reputation not through marketing but through an unusually committed design ethos. Every piece of furniture, every rug, every fixture is considered. The lobby bar is a real downtown scene — not a hotel afterthought. And Gemma, the Italian trattoria downstairs, is a neighborhood fixture that locals actually book on its own merit.

The Bowery Hotel sits at the intersection of NoHo, East Village, and NoLita, a part of Manhattan that was synonymous with skid row until this hotel opened and changed the neighborhood's trajectory. Built from scratch by nightlife veterans Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (also behind The Jane, The Ludlow, and Hotel Chelsea), it's designed to feel like an imaginary prewar Manhattan apartment building — all 135 rooms with Oushak rugs, iron-framed factory windows, and marble bathrooms dressed in antique brass fixtures. Rates run $800 to $1,000+ per night, but the lobby alone is worth a visit.

Where You'll Stay

7 room types available

Bowery King
Standard

Bowery King

Same footprint as the Queen, but with a king bed and a seating area. Still compact at 250 sq ft, but the large windows and thoughtful design make them feel bigger than the square footage suggests. A solid choice if the budget matters but you still want the full Bowery experience.

Bowery Queen
Standard

Bowery Queen

The entry-level room, but don't let that put you off. You get a queen bed, marble ensuite with rainfall shower, floor-to-ceiling factory windows, Oushak rug over hardwood floors, and C.O. Bigelow bath amenities. At 250 sq ft it's tight by most standards — but this is Manhattan.

One Bedroom Terrace Suite
Suite

One Bedroom Terrace Suite

500-600 sq ft with a private terrace — a serious upgrade. The bathroom has a marble soaking tub that opens directly onto the outdoor terrace. Room 705 is a particular favorite for guests in the know. Great for a celebratory stay or if you simply want to have a morning coffee outdoors above the Bowery.

Penthouse Suite

Penthouse Suite

A corner one-bedroom suite on an upper floor with expansive downtown views. The corner positioning means windows on two walls — the kind of vantage point on lower Manhattan that most hotels charge considerably more for. Furnished in the same old-New York style as the rest of the hotel, but with the added drama of the skyline.

Penthouse Terrace Suite

The top-of-house option — a 14th floor one-bedroom suite with a 650 sq ft private terrace. That's a lot of outdoor space by any standard, let alone in Manhattan. The views are unobstructed. This is the suite for special occasions, proposals, and people who want to throw a small party on their own private rooftop.

Studio Suite

At 400-450 sq ft, the Studio Suite is the first room where you'll genuinely feel spacious. Open-plan layout with a king bed and a proper seating area. Marble bathroom with rainfall shower. Still no separate bedroom, but the square footage gives you room to breathe — and space to actually unpack.

A step up in size — 300 sq ft with a king bed and rainfall shower. These are on floors 3-6 only and must be booked by calling the hotel directly. The extra 50 sq ft over the standard King makes a noticeable difference in livability. North-facing rooms on higher floors can deliver Empire State Building views from the bed.
