Chedi Hegra, AlUla
Archaeological luxury meets railway nostalgia. Earthy, textured interiors designed by Milan's Gio Forma with Poltrona Frau leather furnishings and Porfido Pedretti stone surfaces. Quiet, small-scale, residential feel — no sprawling corridors. Original art installations throughout, including works by Monika Sosnowska and Elizabeth Turk. The vibe is contemplative and historically rooted, not flashy.

Why It Matters
The only hotel in the world built inside the Hegra UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk to 2,000-year-old Nabataean rock-cut tombs before breakfast. The restored Hejaz Railway station and Locomotive 964 are the literal centerpiece of the dining experience. With only 35 keys, it's intimate enough that the staff genuinely learn your name.
Built into the ruins of a 1907 Hejaz Railway station on the edge of Hegra's ancient Nabataean city, The Chedi Hegra is the only hotel sitting inside Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just 35 rooms, suites, and villas spread across 16 existing historic structures — including the old railway station and Hegra Fort — with original mud-brick and stone walls preserved and woven into the contemporary interiors. A restored 1906 locomotive (Locomotive 964) anchors the all-day restaurant, and a 700-meter shimmering metal canopy called Lamellae traces the old railway tracks across the property.
