Hoxton, Portland
Post-industrial, mid-century modern cool. The lobby is intentionally designed as a co-working hangout — mismatched furniture, locals with laptops, a coffee bar humming all day. It feels more like a neighborhood spot that happens to have rooms than a traditional hotel.

Why It Matters
The Hoxton is the place that put hotel dining back on the map in Portland. Tope, the rooftop taqueria by Chef Adán Fausto, is one of the city's most-visited rooftop bars. The art in every room is curated by local gallery Upfor, and the ceramics on the shelves are from Portland artisans Clay Factor — this isn't generic boutique-hotel decor.
The Hoxton, Portland opened in 2018 in a century-old building in historic Old Town, just steps from the Chinatown Gate. The design takes cues from the Pacific Northwest modernist movement of the 1960s and '70s — think rich walnut paneling, brass lighting, and pink marble accents — rather than copying the London original. 119 rooms range from genuinely tiny to comfortably roomy, and the food and drink program is legitimately good: a rooftop taqueria with views of Mt. Hood, a Filipino-American lobby restaurant, a lobby coffee bar, and a basement speakeasy that you actually have to find.
